The Nominations Committee is pleased to present a well-qualified slate of candidates for President-Elect and Director-at-Large. It is the Board’s responsibility to represent your interests and needs. The Board’s qualifications, interests, and commitments continue to reflect the dedication and excellence of this specialty nursing organization. My philosophy is centered on the principles of education, industry synergy, strength, safety, and wellness. In my view, the continuous professional development of our members is paramount. I believe that by fostering a culture of lifelong learning, we can ensure that our members remain at the forefront of advancements in the field of air and surface transport nursing. This not only enhances individual competency but also elevates the standard of care we provide to patients.

Education is a cornerstone of my vision for ASTNA. I aim to promote a variety of educational opportunities, including advanced certifications, specialized training programs, and access to cutting-edge research. By doing so, we can empower our members to achieve their highest potential and adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare.

Industry synergy is another critical component of my philosophy. Collaboration with other organizations and stakeholders within the healthcare and transport sectors is essential. I plan to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new ones, ensuring that ASTNA remains a key player in shaping industry standards and policies. Through these collaborative efforts, we can drive innovation, improve patient outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.

Strength lies in our collective expertise and unity. As President Elect, I will work with the current President and Board of Directors to continue to foster a sense of community within ASTNA, where members feel supported and valued. By promoting open communication and encouraging member engagement, we can strengthen a resilient and dynamic association that is responsive to the needs of its members.

Safety and wellness are fundamental to our practice. The well-being of our members is a top priority, and I am committed to implementing initiatives that promote physical and mental health. This includes developing comprehensive industry fatigue management programs to address the challenges of long and demanding shifts, ensuring that our members can perform their duties safely and effectively. Additionally, I will advocate for education, policies, and practices that minimize workplace hazards and enhance the overall safety of transport operations.

My goals for serving as President Elect include:

What are the contributions that you plan to bring to ASTNA in the position you are applying for?

As a Board Member At Large, I plan to bring many different contributions to the organization. I am a well-rounded individual that has a vast knowledge of many topics in the transport industry. I have extensive knowledge of the billing process and Medicare/Medicaid regulations and can provide valuable insight into how changes to these regulations will affect the industry and the members of ASTNA. Among this knowledge of the billing process is my experience in advocating with insurance providers for increased reimbursement. I plan to contribute by assisting in advocacy with federal regulators or politicians for not only payment changes, but other regulatory changes that affect the transport industry, such as practice act changes or expansion. Another contribution I plan to bring to ASTNA is my knowledge of evidence-based practice and research. I have a Doctor of Nursing Practice and have extensively studied evidence-based practice initiatives.

My goal by serving on the Board of Directors is to keep the transport industry in its preeminent role and to support and advance the role of nurses in the transport environment. As a board member, I will strive to ensure that all nurses feel represented by ASTNA and feel empowered to not only keep the industry safe, effective, and professional, but to also make the changes necessary to advance the industry. I will strive to ensure that all nurses feel represented by ASTNA and encourage my fellow Transport Nurses to participate and advocate for our industry.

What are the contributions that you plan to bring to ASTNA in the position you are applying for?

My time with ASTNA has been rewarding. It has allowed me to engage with members across our industry to collectively improve and enhance educational offerings. As I near the end of my term on the Education Committee, I’m beginning to look for ways to continue contributing to the organization. I am very passionate about education and mentorship. As the industry evolves, we have to lead and grow those who are next in line. The quality of education for our colleagues and future replacements must be maintained at a high level. For providers with an interest in this career, I believe in cultivating their growth through varying levels of mentorship, education, and development, giving them the tools they need to be successful. If elected to the BOD, I will work to uphold the mission of ASTNA and support its current and future members to the best of my ability.

“Finding your passion” has always been a philosophy I’ve tried to employ and promote. When you find your passion, you become fully invested in the endless journey of becoming the best version of yourself. Hopefully, with humility, self-reflection, and dedication, you also provide a positive impact on those around you. I found my passion many years ago and am honored to have the best job in the world. If elected to the Board of Directors, I would carry my passion for the industry into this new position with pride and tenacity, focusing on helping our members, both present and future, in their journey to become their best version of themselves. What are the contributions that you plan to bring to ASTNA in the position you are applying for?

For nearly 16 years, I have dedicated myself to the critical role of a flight nurse, adept at handling patient transport via air and ground across diverse populations. In addition to my transport responsibilities, I have actively engaged in various capacities, including clinical education, simulation, communication, and clinical management. My profound commitment to the air medical/transport industry is exemplified by my management of the AMTC Sim Cup for the past decade and my founding of the CCTMC Sim Competition in collaboration with ASTNA and ICAPP six years ago, an event I proudly continue to spearhead. With a track record of delivering compelling presentations at multiple transport medicine conferences and co-authoring and editing three volumes of the ASTNA Human Patient Simulation Transport textbook, my involvement in the ASTNA Simulation Sub-Committee further underscores my dedication and expertise.

Goals: In this role, I am committed to advancing ASTNA's mission through meaningful collaboration with other organizations, conducting evidence-based research, and establishing standards of care that enhance patient outcomes and the overall delivery of care. I also aim to drive the ongoing development of safety initiatives and industry standards. Furthermore, I am dedicated to promoting the growth and recognition of the transport nursing career by prioritizing effective communication and fostering leadership skills within our industry.

Philosophy: 1. "ABC: Always be changing." In addition to past success, adaptability, and intellectual curiosity are two key traits. 2. Set aggressive goals, get buy-in, measure progress regularly, celebrate, make hard decisions, and move on. 3. We decide and get to be
successful. We are not victims. 4. Great ideas come from all levels. 5. I work for my team. My role is to get the right team on the field, ensure they have the tools for success, and remove friction. 6. Add value to each meeting. 7. Build a cohesive team. While competition is healthy, create a structure where everyone can be successful. Seek initiatives for individuals that help the whole. 8. LISTEN. The voice of the employee and customer is critical. What are we learning? How can we benefit from this knowledge 9. Determine "psychic income" for all team members - what motivates them? 10. Have fun. The focus of the CCTMC is clinical and designed to address issues pertinent to the prehospital and emergency care of the critically ill and injured patient. Adult and pediatric as well as neonate and obstetrical care discussions are welcome and encouraged.

Presentation of case studies, or topics geared to enhance the professional image of the healthcare professional are also popular. We will offer Basic and Advanced tracks, including a focus on Peds/Neonates, Advanced Practice Nursing, Quality, and Safety. Lecture length is 30 minutes, including QA, for most lectures. General Sessions and some other lectures (as determined by the selection committee) will be 50 minutes. Topics requested by past attendees include mental health, cutting edge information, pediatrics, cardiac, trauma, critical care, current research, case studies, HROB and ventilators.

Tips:

· Make your lecture transport specific

· Include critical care ground

· Don’t underestimate the knowledge base of the audience. Most CCTMC attendees like to be challenged.

· Include new or innovative practices/technologies

· Include pharmacology

· Include pathophysiology

· We love research!

· We love case studies!
