As President of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association, I want to take a few moments to publicly recognize all of those who are tirelessly working on the frontlines of healthcare. Whether you’re in an ED, ICU, clinic, pre-hospital, or transport setting we want to thank you for the countless hours you are putting in to not only treat COVID-19 patients, but the patient populations we serve on a daily basis. In an unprecedented time with near daily changes and updates, lack of resources and supplies, and the fear of exposing ourselves and loved ones, our presence as integral members of the health care community is more important than ever. As a professional organization in conjunction with IAFCCP, AMPA, NEMSPA and AAMS please know that we support and applaud your daily sacrifice to care for those with whom you come in contact with. We would ask that anyone impacted by recent events, as a sign of solidarity, consideration, and resilience, to show your support by placing a white light in your window or somewhere visible at night. Let the white light symbolize appreciation, a marker for hope, and a reminder to those heroes selflessly supporting our communities. Although the situation is likely to get worse before it gets better, please remember to take time to care for yourself. Reach out to your colleagues, family, and friends for support. As we all face this time of uncertainty, let us not forget that our professional community is strong, supportive, and resilient. We will overcome this challenge and be better providers for it. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself, ASTNA Executive Director Nikole Good, or other members of the ASTNA Board if there is anything we can do for you, even if you just need someone to talk to.

Take care of yourselves,

Josh Wall PhD, RN, CEN, CFRN

ASTNA President

P.S. Don’t forget to get involved in the #ASTNACARES campaign! Nominate a transport program, emergency department or ICU to receive a care package or meal on us. Spread the Love!
