ASTNA Members now have TWO opportunities to receive a scholarship to the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference in Denver, Colorado on April 17-19!

Steven W. Neher Critical Care Transport Scholarship
The Steven W. Neher Critical Care Transport Scholarship has been created by the ASTNA Foundation to help transport professionals advance their knowledge and skills by providing assistance to attend conferences related to critical care transport medicine, including the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference (CCTMC) and the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC).

This scholarship is presented to exceptional transport professionals who have had a positive impact on critical care transport. ALL ASTNA Members are eligible!

Academy of Air & Surface Transport Nurses (AASTN) Application Deadline is February 15!

The ASTNA Fellowship program annually bestows an honorary recognition upon exceptional critical care transport nurse members who have made enduring and substantial contributions that have had significant impact and continue to advance the critical care transport nursing profession. Those who are named ASTNA Fellows are committed to contributing continued leadership and service to the critical care transport community. The name of this academy is the Academy of Air & Surface Transport Nurses (AASTN). The AASTN functions under the authority of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) Board of Directors and is composed of individual members of ASTNA, titled “Fellows”. The official logo, seal and pin reflect the status and inclusion of the AASTN within the ASTNA organizational structure. Follow the link below for more information and to apply!

Kelley Holdren Excellence in Transport Nursing Award

ASTNA is honored to introduce the Kelley Holdren Excellence in Transport Nursing Award, a prestigious honor commemorating the remarkable contributions of the late Kelley Holdren, former President of the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA). In recognition of Kelley's visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to the transport industry, this award stands as a testament to her indelible mark on our field. Kelley Holdren, a compassionate individual who faced the challenges of cancer with unparalleled courage and resilience, leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire. Her significant contributions to ASTNA and the transport industry at large will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

May the Kelley Holdren Excellence in Transport Nursing Award serve as a perpetual reminder of her outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing our industry and her encouraging others to strive for excellence. In celebrating this award, we pay tribute to Kelley's enduring legacy and the positive impact she made on the lives of those in the transport nursing community.

ASTNA will be accepting nominations and self-nominations. This award will be presented at the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference annually. The award recipient will receive a prestigious award, conference registration, airfare and three nights hotel.

CCTMC-Call for Abstracts 


The Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference (CCTMC) will once again feature a Scientific Forum with poster presentations of original scientific research. Poster presentations will be formally judged during the conference on April 8thand an Outstanding Research Award will be bestowed to the best research presentation. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Air Medical Journal. Abstracts presented at other meetings during 2023-2024 will be considered. If abstracts have been published prior they will not be republished in the Air Medical Journal. Our goal is to nurture and provide an appropriate forum for research in air medical transport. 

Deadline: Feb. 15, 2024 at 5 p.m. EST 

Abstracts must be sent as E-mail attachment in MS Word format (Macintosh or Windows) without names or institutions listed. Objective, methods, results and conclusion sections should be included, 3200 maximum number of characters allowed (including spaces). Use single line spacing. Leave one line of space between paragraphs. Left justify all text. Word documents should have 1 inch margins, and text in Times font, 12 point size. Please use the "word count" feature under "Tools" in Word. The E-mail cover should list names of participants in the study, institutional affiliations, funding sources, and identify the person who will present the poster at the conference*. In addition, the E-mail cover must state whether or not the abstract has been or will be presented and/or published prior to April 2024. The reference must be supplied. Submissions should be affiliated with a critical care transport program or an academic center. Submissions should be sent to Dr. Lauri Bolton at Lauri.bolton@hhchealth.org and must be received by 5:00 p.m. EST on Feb. 15, 2024. 

Travel expenses and CCTMC registration are not covered for the person presenting the abstract(s) at CCTMC.

Team Submission for Transport Medicine Competition (TMC@CCTMC)
Simulation Competition Due By February 29th!

We are happy to announce the return of the CCTMC critical care simulation competition, Transport Medicine Competition (TMC@CCTMC), nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and nurse practitioners. The competition will include a series of matches in front of a live audience using high-fidelity simulation manikins to test skill, knowledge, critical thinking, and communication. Come join us for fun and simulation!

The CCTMC Chuck Sheppard Excellence in Education Award

Nomination Deadline March 1st

This award is presented annually to an educator who has demonstrated a passion for education and continued clinical growth, to recognize and honor those dedicated to the enhancement of clinical education in transport medicine.

This award is presented in honor of Dr. Charles (Chuck) W. Sheppard, MD, FACEP, who has served as a dedicated leader in providing high-quality education to the CCTMC family and to clinical providers across the country, dating back to the early 1970s. He has impacted thousands of clinicians through presentations, publications, and his activity on multiple committees as well as functioning as a medical director for various transport organizations. The intention of this award is to honor Dr. Sheppard by ensuring that his legacy and recognition of the impact he has had on so many providers will continue to be a part of the CCTMC mission well into the future.

  • Eligibility: This award is open to any clinical educator who has dedicated their
    career to the growth of others in the transport medicine environment
  • Award: This award includes a $1,000 honorarium (adjustable) and a plaque commemorating the honor.
  • A written nomination must be submitted by the deadline established by March 15th. Self-nomination is prohibited.
  • The written nomination should include a summary demonstrating the nominee’s dedication to education, and two additional letters of recommendation in addition to the nominating party.
  • Nominations should be emailed to ngood@astna.org
Nominations are not limited to those who maintain a full-time position in education but is awarded solely on the information provided regarding the nominee’s impact on clinicians in transport medicine, or transport medicine as an industry, through the delivery of clinical education.
