Call for Board Nominations

The ASTNA election season is now underway! This is the opportunity for ASTNA members to have a voice in selecting our national leadership.

If you are interested in applying for a 2024-2025 Board of Directors position, the time isNOW. Think about the influence you could have on transport nursing for the future!

The following positions will become vacant inNovember 2024:

President-Elect

Director at Large (1position open)



Our specialty is continuing to evolve so it is a great time to become involved in shaping the future and direction of transport nursing. If you are willing to make a commitment, you will find it a very positive experience.

As an ASTNA officer, you will find it fun and challenging with many personal and professional rewards. You will be required to fulfill the job responsibilities and dedicate your time.

To qualify as a candidate for an Officer or Board Director-at-Large position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a current member of ASTNA (Dues paid in full at time of submitting application for candidacy).
  • Have a minimum of two years transport nurse experience prior to election.
  • Currently certified in transport specialty (CFRN, CTRN), to include C-NPT and actively transporting patients within that specialty.
  • Must be actively be involved in transport nursing at the time applying for a candidate application. The definition of an active member is a registered nurse actively participating (on a full or part-time basis) as a care provider, educator and/or administrator in patient transport, regardless of mode. An RN on leave of absence from active participation for no more than two years is also eligible.
  • Application must be received in the ASTNA office no later than end of business day on the published due date.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Be an active member of ASTNA which can be met by reviewing or writing for any ASTNA publication, teaching TPATC, PATC or other ASTNA Courses, participating as an active member of an ASTNA committee, serve as an ASTNA liaison, contribute to AMJ, be active as a transport nurse on a local, state or national level or advocating for transport nursing at a local, state or national level.
  • Current TPATC or PATC verification preferred.

As an officer, you will meet your commitment to the Association by attending all in person meetings and conference calls and fulfilling the responsibilities required of your position. There are typically three board meetings a year, most often held in conjunction with the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference (CCTMC) in the Spring, a summer Strategic Planning Meeting and Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) in the Fall. These are generally one-day meetings held in various geographical areas. Approximately six to eight conference calls (approximately 90 minute duration) are held between meetings.

Currently, air/ground travel to Board meetings is paid by ASTNA, as well as, 2 nights hotel. Fortunately, some Board Members have been able to receive financial support from their employers. By supporting its ASTNA Board Member, the program can benefit by receiving national exposure and recognition. Additional costs that will be reimbursed by the ASTNA are those related to the performance of your duties, e.g. postage, printing, telephone calls for ASTNA business. There is no stipend or honoraria attached to being an ASTNA officer.

Below you will find a brief description of the responsibilities of the available positions. Each Board Member acts as a Board Liaison for committee chairpersons and regions and may also act as a chairperson for committees. Board Members may be requested to serve on various national committees of allied organizations, or even represent the organization in various forums throughout their three-year term.

Election results will be released by September 2023. It is important for all newly elected officers to attend the Board Meeting held in conjunction with AMTC at their own expense. This year’s AMTC will be held in Columbus, OH. The ASTNA Board Meeting will be held on November 3, 2024. New Board members are required to be present and will be inducted on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at AMTC at the ASTNA Annual Meeting/Member Luncheon.

Duties: 1. Understands, upholds, and supports the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the ASTNA.

2. Represents ASTNA membership at Board meetings.

3. Acts as the Board Liaison for assigned committee(s) and provides guidance forthe Chairperson of the committee.

4. Acts as the Chairperson for assigned committee.

a. Establishes and distributes goals to committee members and facilitates the communication and activities among committee members in order to meet annual goals.

b. Maintains activities within the budget.

c. Reports to the Board on activities at each meeting.

5. Acts as the Board Liaison for assigned region to facilitate ASTNA communication.

For consideration, all information must be complete. The attached application questionnaire form matches the format of ASTNA’s ballot packet. Therefore, provide the information you believe is important while keeping in mind that space is limited on the ballot.Please complete electronically via online submission form or word document application. Potential conflicts may include a financial relationship or other responsibility between you, a family member, or your business, with an organization (whether for profit or nonprofit) which is now or may be in the future, be in competition with ASTNA in that it engages in the financing, delivering or servicing of health care education and publications for air and ground medical transport service providers.
